Sub-Committee on Information and Broadcasting Reviews FGEHA Plot Allocation for Journalists
 
The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, convened by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, met on Tuesday at PTV Headquarters, Islamabad, to review the implementation status of recommendations made at the committee's previous meeting on the distribution of plots and flats reserved for journalists and media workers by the Federal Government Employees Housing Society (FGEHA), and on the existing quotas allotted to journalists and media workers under the scheme.

The meeting was attended by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi and Senator Jan Muhammad, along with officials of the relevant authorities.

The General Secretary of the Press Club Islamabad briefed the committee that the Ministry was fully cooperating with the sub-committee and that progress on the matter remained on schedule. He further informed the committee that the first phase of the plan had been completed and that implementation had now entered its second phase.

A number of journalists who had applied under the program were also present at the meeting, where they raised their grievances before the sub-committee. The sub-committee assured them that their concerns would be addressed promptly.
 
 Convener of the committee directed all relevant stakeholders be taken onboard. He said that a transparent mechanism needs to be adopted and lists of those who fulfill the criteria be placed on the websites of the relevant forums including the Press Club. He said that journalists and media workers work day and night and we are are fully aware of the hardships being faced by them in field while performing their duties. 
 
The Convener directed officials from the Ministry to submit all relevant rules and regulations to the committee. He assured that the issue would be resolved and stated that the sub-committee's recommendations would be submitted by the end of the month, with a follow-up meeting to be held thereafter.
