Senate Sub-Committee Moves to Introduce Cashless Medical Facility for Employees
A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Executive Committee of the Senate Secretariat Employees Welfare Fund was held under the convenorship of Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti to review the existing procedure for provision of medical facilities to Senate employees and explore measures to improve access to quality healthcare through empanelled hospitals or health insurance services.
The meeting was attended by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri and Senator Nasir Mehmood, while Senator Agha Shahzaib Durrani participated as a special invitee.
The Sub-Committee reviewed the difficulties faced by employees under the existing medical reimbursement system, under which employees are required to initially bear medical expenses and subsequently seek reimbursement after treatment and scrutiny of medical claims. The members emphasized the need to replace the existing arrangement with a cashless healthcare system that would ensure timely and better medical facilities for Senate employees.
After detailed deliberations, the Sub-Committee unanimously agreed to explore the services of health insurance companies to provide employees with access to a wider network of quality hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Representatives of the State Life Insurance Corporation and Alfallah Insurance Ltd. briefed the Sub-Committee on their proposed health insurance plans. The members, however, raised questions regarding the scope and extent of coverage under the proposed plans.
Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti directed the companies to submit details of their existing agreements and health insurance plans with other government institutions for further examination. He also directed that emerging and contemporary healthcare needs be incorporated into the proposed plan in consultation with the Senate Secretariat team.
The Sub-Committee reiterated its commitment to developing a modern, transparent and employees friendly healthcare system that provides Senate employees with quality medical treatment without the financial burden and procedural difficulties associated with the existing reimbursement mechanism.
