Government Taking Effective Measures to Promote Business, Resolve Public Issues and Improve Governance: Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar

A strong local government system is an effective means of directly involving people in decision-making; basic public issues can be resolved more efficiently at the local level

Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar held a series of meetings with people from different walks of life, lawyers, representatives of civil society, political and social figures, and various delegations at Parliament House. Those who called on him included Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works Senator Nasir Butt, member Kashmir Women Commission Rehana Khan, renowned footballer Mubashir Sanjrani, and Member Balochistan Assembly Mir Mohammad Asim Kurd Gello among others.

During the meetings, matters pertaining to various sectors, public issues, improvement of governance at the local level, promotion of economic and commercial activities, and challenges confronting the country were discussed in detail.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar said that the government was taking effective measures to promote business and commercial activities, ensure economic stability, improve governance, and address issues faced by the people. He said the government’s priority was to engage the public and all relevant stakeholders in consultation to find practical and sustainable solutions to issues and provide maximum relief to the people.

He said that a strong and effective local government system was essential for good governance and an efficient administrative structure. Local governments serve as an important bridge between citizens and state institutions, as most basic and day-to-day public issues are directly linked to the local level. Problems relating to roads, sanitation, water supply, drainage, basic civic facilities and other municipal services can be addressed more effectively through the meaningful involvement of elected local representatives.

The Deputy Chairman Senate said that local government elections were an important means of strengthening the democratic system at the grassroots level. Such elections provide citizens with an opportunity to directly elect representatives to lead and represent their respective areas. This not only strengthens the democratic process but also facilitates the identification and resolution of local issues in a more prompt and effective manner.

He said the government was taking necessary measures to make the local government system more effective, functional and empowered, while practical progress was also being made towards the holding of local government elections and effective implementation of the system. The involvement of local representatives would help in better understanding regional needs, ensuring efficient utilisation of resources, and resolving public issues in a timely manner.

Syedaal Khan Nasar said that sustainable development, good governance and effective public service could not be achieved without consultation with the people and their meaningful participation at the local level. Activating local governments would bring decision-making closer to the people and provide citizens with greater opportunities to play an effective role in resolving issues affecting their communities.

He further said that the government was taking all possible measures to improve the quality of governance, enhance institutional performance, promote transparency, and strengthen the system of public service delivery. He said the fundamental objective of good governance was to provide people with timely and quality services and make state institutions more responsive to public needs.

The Deputy Chairman Senate stressed that continuous consultation, public participation and effective local representation could help not only in accurately identifying issues but also in formulating practical, effective and sustainable strategies for their resolution. Strong local governments, he added, could play a vital role in promoting democratic continuity, good governance and public welfare across the country.
