Event Title: Pakistani Parliamentary Delegation Engages with International Counterparts During 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul, Türkiye 15–19 April 2026

A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti along with Senator Muhammad Talha Mehmood, held a series of significant bilateral and multilateral engagements on the sidelines of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Istanbul, Türkiye, aimed at strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and fostering international cooperation.
During the Assembly, the Pakistani delegation conducted a formal meeting with the Parliamentary Delegation of Syria, where both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual parliamentary interest and reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced cooperation through dialogue, experience-sharing, and inter-parliamentary engagement.
The delegation also engaged with representatives from Canada, participating in constructive interactions with the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation led by Senator Salma Ataullah Jan. Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, along with Muhammad Talha Mahmood, emphasized the importance of sustained parliamentary collaboration and people-to-people contact between the two countries.
In addition, the Pakistani delegation met with Mr. Christopher Kalila, MP of Zambia, Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), and Mr. Jarvis, Assistant Secretary General of the CPA Secretariat. The meeting focused on the role of parliamentary institutions in democratic strengthening, shared legislative practices, and enhancing engagement among Commonwealth member parliaments.
Throughout the Assembly proceedings, the Pakistani delegation actively participated in plenary sessions and informal exchanges with parliamentarians from around the world, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, inclusive dialogue, and parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for promoting peace, development, and mutual understanding.
The 152nd IPU Assembly brought together parliamentary leaders and members from across the globe, providing an important platform for discussing contemporary global challenges and reinforcing the central role of parliaments in addressing them.
