NEW YORK –Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, was honored at a magnificent dinner reception in New York, celebrating his visit to the United States for the annual United Nations events. The event, hosted by Syed Alamdar Shah, Chief Editor of Chase News, brought together a distinguished assembly of diplomats, American political figures, and prominent community leaders to discuss Pakistan’s legislative progress and the vital role of the diaspora.
In his keynote address, Chairman Gilani expressed profound gratitude to the Pakistani-American community, describing them as a "vibrant and essential pillar" of the nation’s global identity. He highlighted the resilience of Pakistan’s democratic institutions, noting that the Senate has consistently made "tough decisions at critical junctures" to safeguard the welfare of the people and maintain national unity despite significant challenges.
"The government and the Senate have worked tirelessly under difficult circumstances to implement structural amendments aimed at improving the system and ensuring the prosperity of our citizens," Chairman Gilani stated.
The reception featured notable remarks from a diverse group of speakers including Syed Alamdar Shah (Host), Mr. Boby Kumar, a prominent community and "dear friend of Pakistan." Mr. Kumar welcomed the Chairman, reflecting on his deep familial roots in Pakistan and his long-standing personal relationship with Mr. Gilani.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN praised the Chairman’s "excellent representation" of Pakistan at the UN Headquarters. He emphasized that such high-level visits are crucial for maintaining a strong bridge between the Pakistani government and its overseas community.
Senator Jessica Ramos representing the local New York leadership, expressed her pleasure in welcoming Mr. Gilani to Queens, acknowledging the "tremendous contributions" Pakistani-Americans have made to the culture, education, and economy of New York.
Sarwer Chaudhry, a senior member of the PPP and dedicated community activist, paid tribute to the Gilani family’s historical role in the development of the Multan and Vahari regions, particularly in agricultural progress.
