Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, while addressing the Joint Sitting of Parliament at the Parliament House, reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to the rights and welfare of women and minorities. He said that even during his tenure as Prime Minister, his guiding principle had been that “women and minorities are my constituency” — a commitment that continues today.
Gilani informed the House that a Minorities Caucus had been established in the Senate to ensure stronger advocacy and protection of minority rights. He recalled that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had included the white portion in Pakistan’s national flag specifically to represent the country’s religious minorities, reflecting their integral role in the nation.
During his remarks, the Chairman Senate asked the Minister for Law whether the reservations expressed by some members as well as the President of Pakistan had been addressed. The Law Minister gave assurance in this regard.
