Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, in his special message on the World Population Day, observed globally on July 11, emphasized that this day serves as a stark reminder of the serious challenges posed by rapid population growth. The core objective of marking this day every year is to raise awareness about population-related issues and to formulate effective strategies at both national and international levels to address them.
The Chairman stated that among the major challenges Pakistan faces today, uncontrolled population growth remains one of the most pressing. If timely and effective measures are not taken, future generations may face severe difficulties in accessing basic necessities such as health, education, food, water, and employment.
He further stated that without achieving a population balance, it would be impossible to eradicate poverty, reduce unemployment, protect the environment, and ensure sustainable human development. He stressed that to tackle this national issue, a unified and long-term strategy is essential—one that brings together the Parliament, federal and provincial governments, religious scholars, educational institutions, media, and civil society on a single platform.
On this occasion, the Chairman reaffirmed the commitment of the Parliament to take all necessary legislative and policy-based actions to effectively address the issue of population growth, so that Pakistan may move towards becoming a balanced, prosperous, and developed nation.
