The Special Committee visited different Tobacco factories in Swabi region to get well acquainted with problems confronted by local tobacco manufacturers and growers. Manufacturers and Growers apprised the committee that, In Swabi tobacco is considered as cash crop and majority of people is associated with this industry. Recently, Government has increased tax on local tobacco industry from Rs.10 to 390 rupees and due to this unprecedented increase we are forced to close our factories. Manufacturers and Growers also applauded the efforts of Senators for raising their voice against this injustice. Senator Molana Atta-ur-Rehman remarked that committee will also listen the point of view of Multi National Companies and FBR officials before the conclusion of report. He also assured the local manufacturers and growers that their grievances will be addressed fairly.
During the tour Senator Atta-ur-Rehman was accompanied by Senator Hidayatullah Khan,Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen,Senator Umer Farooq, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, Senator Naseema Ehsan,Senator Dilawar Khan and Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman.
