Event Title: Senator Saifullah Abro, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Power Presiding over a Meeting of the Committee at Parliament Lodges Islamabad

A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Power was held today at the Parliament Lodges.  Chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro, the meeting was attended by Senator Sana Jamali, Senator Fida Muhammad, Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, Senator Prince Ahmed Umar Ahmedzai, Hafiz Abdul Karim and senior officers from the Power Division and NEPRA along with all concerned. 

Matters taken up included implementation status of pending recommendations made by the Committee in its meetings held 24th June 2021 to 2nd August, 2022 that included status of the appointment of CEO GHCL; Gas Booster Compressor Station at TPS, Guddu with provision of agreements and Bill of Quantities (BOQ); NTDC projects completed and ongoing since 2012 to-date; and appointments of MD and DMD(SO) posts in NTDC.  along with their complete appointment procedure and determination of Tariff of electricity for DISCOs and IPPs, newly appointment BoDs of MEPCO and GEPCO along with their CVs and complete procedure.

While discussing details of hiring CEO GHCL, the Committee directed that BOD summary along with CVs must be submitted.  About IPPs it was recommended that a single agenda meeting must be held to focus on minute details.  Massive over invoicing was discussed as well.  While reviewing the Dargai Grid Station 132 KV it was recommended that CEO PESCO along with  their team and AS Power Division will meet Senator Fida Muhammad to discuss land requisition issue and resolve the matter at the earliest.  

Taking up the matter of Gas Booster Compressor Station at TPS, Guddu with provision of agreements and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) the Committee directed that maintenance contract given AL Tariq with details of payments and current status of contract must be submitted in the next meeting.

Reviewing the Guddu Steam Turbine issue, the Committee directed that regulation updates must be submitted in the next meeting.

NTDC projects completed and ongoing since 2012 to-date; the Committee recommended that steps must be taken to promote alternate renewable energy resources.  Regarding appointments of MD and DMD(SO) posts in NTDC along with their complete appointment procedure the Committee emphasized the importance of due diligence. Furthermore it stressed that action must be taken to take to task anyone that misled the Cabinet.
