Event Title: Chairman Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani addressing the Inaugural Session of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network at Baku, Azerbaijan on June 30, 2022.

Event Date: 2022-06-30

Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has called for regional collaboration to expedite the process of regional growth and prosperity through cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture besides other diverse sectors.   Leading a parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan, the Chairman Senate participated in the Conference of Non-Alligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

While addressing participants of the conference, the Chairman Senate remarked that the modern world is fast moving towards globalisation, interconnectivity, and cooperation. At the same time, the world continues to learn that wars only mean destruction of life and property and nothing more. He observed that this situation calls for multilateral cooperation and global action towards peace.  In his address, the Chairman Senate emphasized that until we do not work collectively towards bringing peaceful solutions to the current human rights crises around the world, NAM will not be able to extract its full potential.  “ Pakistan strongly reaffirms the principles of the UN Charter, particularly the right to self-determination and peaceful settlement of disputes” , the Chairman Senate stated.

He said that silence on the long-standing oppression in Kashmir and Palestine is counter-productive to the very ideology behind NAM. He cautioned that right to self-determination and freedom is a basic human right so we shouldn’t see the issues of Kashmir and Palestine in any way other than as issues of human rights, humanity and oppression. “Pakistan has always stood by and raised voice for the oppressed around the world. Pakistan also condemns all forms of ethnic and religious cleansing, hate speech and profiling” Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani observed. He said that Islam as a religion stands for peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and tolerance. Islam, he observed, teaches its followers to honour and respect all religions, races, cultures and laws of the land. He called for discouraging and countering Islamophobia in all its forms and manifestations because it not only hurts billions of Muslims around the world but also puts world peace at stake. The derogatory remarks passed in India recently against our Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is yet another act of Islamophobia and hate speech that are against humanity and the ethos of peaceful coexistence NAM stands for. He apprized the participants that Pakistan has been making great efforts to denounce violence, extremism, and terrorism. Pakistan has sacrificed over 70 thousand lives and billions of dollars of its economy to eliminate terrorism and bring stability to the region, he said. Pakistan also stands for peaceful and dialogue-based resolution to disputes between nations or regions.  Regarding SDGs, the Senate Chairman informed that Pakistan is also making sincere efforts towards achieving the SDGs.  He urged all member states under NAM to look beyond just short-term goals, and instead, work together to achieve long-term prosperity not just for our own people, but for every citizen of the globe.  The Chairman Senate received a huge applause from the participants of the conference for presenting a solid stance on challenges being faced by humanity.
