Senate Standing Committee Evaluates Draft National Sports Policy 2026, long term Athlete Development Programme, and project of Multipurpose Sports Complex, Faisalabad  The Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) convened at Parliament House under the leadership of Senator Dilawar Khan, on September 9, 2026, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of national sports governance, draft policy reforms, long-term athlete development, and ongoing infrastructure projects of PSB at Faisalabad. The Secretary IPC and other senior officials representatives presented detailed briefings to lawmakers regarding the multi-faceted initiatives currently underway to modernize Pakistan’s sporting ecosystem.   In a firm directive, the Committee Chairman along with members instructed the Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) to ensure the Minister's presence at upcoming committee meetings, underscoring that his attendance is a key political responsibility. Emphasizing the vital nature of the forum, the Chairman highlighted that critical national issues are addressed in the committees, including key initiative of wheat supply across the provinces. The Minister’s consistent attendance is essential for providing timely, high-priority briefings on pressing matters of state interest.   A major highlight of this meeting was the review of the draft National Sports Policy 2026, however it was deferred as the draft policy is under consideration by all the provinces. The committee shall discuss it once the input of all provinces is received and incorporated. The Committee also examined the progress of the Long Term Athlete Development Programme (LTADP), launched by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in March 2026 to transition federations from grant dependent annual operations to structured 10 to 12 years performance plans spanning grassroots talent pathways, coaching certification, and sports science integration. To date, 16 out of 43 recognized National Sports Federations have submitted their LTADP plans to the Joint Monitoring Committee for review. In tandem with athlete pathways, the Committee discussed infrastructure development, specifically reviewing the Rs. 25.347 million PSDP-funded project for the construction of a Multipurpose Sports Complex and Padel Courts in Faisalabad. The committee members noted procurement details, including the qualification of two technical bidders following NESPAK’s evaluation, while urging streamlined execution for public benefit. To ensure seamless inter-provincial coordination, federal oversight, and prompt resolution of regional venue access, the Chairman directed that the Minister for IPC and provincial Chief Secretaries be called to participate directly in future committee meetings.   The commiiee was attended by Senators Syed Kazim Ali Shah,Aimal Wali Khan, Rubina Qaim Khani, Abid Sher Ali and Hidayat Ullah (as special invitee) along with secretary IPC and senior officials from Pakistan Sports Board.
