A holder of Hilal-e-Pakistan, a former Federal Minister and Governor of East Pakistan and an ex-Secretary to the Government of Pakistan, Mr. Ghulam Faruque was born on October 7,1899 at Mindapur(West Bengal). He graduated from MAO College, Aligarh and obtained Doctorate in Science from Engineering University of West Pakistan. He joined Indian Railways prior to the partition of the Sub-Continent.

Mr. Ghulam Faruque held very important key positions in the Government of Pakistan as well as a lot of state-owned Corporations like Cotton Board and Jute Board, PIDC, Pakistan Ordnance Factories, WAPDA, PIAC, and ICP. He was a Federal Minister for Commerce, Science and Technology and Defence and Advisor to the Federal Government from 1964 to 1967. He was elected as MNA on National Awami Party seat in 1973. He was a nominated member of the Federal Council constituted in 1981 and was elected to the Senate Pakistan from NWFP in 1985.

Mr. Ghulam Fruque is a well-read person and has special interest in the disciplines like economics, politics and history. He has traveled far and wide on a large number of occasion, both in his official as well as private capacities.
