Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication in its meeting on Tuesday was given detailed account on the matter of installation of e-services software at CDA by LMK Resources Pakistan Ltd and was told that the process of verification of 18 different modules of the e-services software will take a period of 2-3 months. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Shahi Syed here at the Parliament House on Monday and was attended among others by Senators Shibli Faraz, Gianchand, Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi, Rubina Khalid, Naseema Ehsan, Muhammad Javed Abbasi, Special Secretary Interior Rizwan Malik, Additional Secretary IT&T Jamal Nasir, DG FIA Captain Shoaib, Member CDA Nadeem Mailk and representatives from LMK Resources Pakistan Ltd.

The Committee Chairman Shahi Syed expressed concerns over delay in resolving the issue of e-services and noted that this agenda will not lapse with the end of tenure and will be carried forward for the upcoming Committee after Senate elections. The Committee will present its interim report on the status of the matter and new members will take the work from this stage.

Representatives from Federal Investigation Agency gave briefing to the Committee regarding the inquiry being conducted on the matter of contract violations, wrong payments, delay in deployment of systems and software, reluctance on part of CDA. The Committee was told that lack of capacity and resistance to change on part of CDA is one of the main problems causing delay. Member CDA told the committee that focal persons for verification of software modules have been notified and verification procedure will take another 2-3 months. It was suggested that the inquiry which at present is tilted against the private company should be balanced and CDA should be made time bound to give future work plan.

The Committee was also given details of the ministry’s budgetary proposals for next financial year’s Public Sector Development Program. The meeting was told by Additional Secretary IT&T that a total of 6 ongoing projects and 9 new projects will be a part of next year’s PSDP. These projects are related to the ministry as well as SCO, PSEB and NITB.
