He was elected as member of the Senate in March 1997 for a six year term. He is currently a Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Education and Scientific and Technological Resears. He is also currently a member of the Senate Standing Committees on Finance, Revenue and Economics Affairs and Statistics and also on Functional Committee on Probelms of Less Developed Areas.
